As I've been working on more and more projects throughout my undergraduate career, I thought it would be nice to document my progress. This way, I (and others) can look back and learn from my previous experiences.
I've found that the days seem to blend together, and it gets hard to remember every little problem I overcame. So, I'd like to keep better track of my progress here!

This summer I've been working in the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Lab with Dr. Francesca Hopkins, graduate student Michael Rodriguez, and UCI graduate student Cindy Yañez. I've been looking at a ton of data Cindy collected from May 2020 to July 2021 by driving our mobile lab on LA and Riverside freeways. So far, I've only looked at CO2 concentration data.
I've been able to look at trends:
And I've created maps showing CO2 concentrations along the mobile lab's route each month:
I've also started looking at the relationship between traffic congestion and CO2 concentration. We think that there should be more emissions in congested stop-and-go traffic, but we're unsure of how to find that relationship in this dataset. I've looked at correlations between speed of the mobile lab and CO2 concentration, but I don't think that's the best way to see the relationship between traffic and CO2. I'd like to see if I can get my hands on Caltrans speed sensor data to see if that works better. I've also started looking at conditional means using acceleration and speed as conditions, and it seems like there might be something there, but I'd like to spend more time with that. I'd also like to read Fitzmaurice et al. 2022 because it seems like they've dealt with something similar.
