Everything That Doesn't Fit on My Poster & More

Monthly carbon dioxide concentrations along the van's route

I've been focusing on just the 60 for analysis lately so I have a more manageable dataset to work with. I've gridded the data along the 60 so we can compare concentrations on the same grid between different days. Here are some preliminary plots.

Carbon monoxide concentrations along the 60. Pay attention to the spike in concentration on 7/30/20 and 7/15/21. I've been looking at wind speed and direction to figure out if these spikes at the same location a year apart are from traffic or a point-source emitter.

Carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide concentration ratio along the 60. Eventually, I will start looking at NOx concentrations in addition to carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Since passenger vehicles emit more CO and heavy duty vehicles (e.g. trucks) emit more NOx, comparing their concentrations, normalized by CO2 concentration, can help us identify the vehicle fleet.

Carbon dioxide concentrations along the 60. We can see that summer months are much more variable than winter months. This is likely due to changes in the atmospheric boundary layer

Carbon dioxide concentrations along the 60. Here we see parallels to CO2 concentrations along the entire route. This tells us that data collected along the 60 can represent the rest of the data. However, once I find good methods of data analysis along the 60, I will be able to apply the same methods to the rest of the route.

Carbon monoxide concentrations along the 60. Here we can see the hotspots from the time series plots are outliers.

Carbon monoxide concentrations gridded along the 60. Pay attention to 20200730 and 20210715, which have CO hotspots in the same locations. This is an indication that it may be a point-source. It's hard to tell from the scale, but I frequently saw increases in CO toward the end of this transect as cars reached an interchange with the 71.
